July 21-26, 2026
From the opening violin to the final blessing, Fiddler on the Roof stands as one of Broadway’s most beloved and enduring musicals. Set in the small village of Anatevka, it explores the timeless struggle between tradition and change as an entire community navigates a rapidly shifting world.
At the center is Tevye, a poor milkman trying to balance ancient customs with his daughters’ modern dreams. But this story extends far beyond one family. It encompasses a whole village of memorable characters who make Anatevka come alive.
As three daughters challenge matchmaking customs and political forces threaten their peaceful village, the story becomes a powerful exploration of what truly matters when everything you’ve built your life on is shaken to its core.
Created by the legendary team of Jerry Bock (music), Sheldon Harnick (lyrics), and Joseph Stein (book), this Tony Award-winning musical explores themes of faith, resilience, family bonds, and the delicate balance between honoring the past and embracing the future. With unforgettable characters, soaring music, magnificent dance sequences, and moments of profound humor and heartbreak, Fiddler speaks to the human experience across all cultures and generations.
Featuring a live orchestra performing one of the most moving scores ever written for the stage, the music includes treasured numbers like “Tradition”, “Matchmaker”, “If I Were a Rich Man”, “Sunrise, Sunset”, and “Do You Love Me?”.
Upper Room Theatre’s production promises to capture both the grandeur and intimacy that makes this show so special.
Meet Our Tevye
For our milestone 25th anniversary production, we’re thrilled to have professional theater veteran Jim Lawson bringing his extraordinary talent to the role of Tevye.
With over 40 years of commanding stages at prestigious venues like the National Theatre in DC, Olney Theatre Center, Round House Theatre, and on national tours, Jim has starred in lead roles in dozens of professional productions including Hello, Dolly!, The Sound of Music, Guys and Dolls, and Man of La Mancha. He’s even starred opposite Sally Struthers.
But what makes Jim perfect for Upper Room isn’t just his impressive résumé — it’s that he embodies the values Tevye holds dear.
A devoted family man of deep faith, Jim made his Upper Room Theatre debut in our 2024 hit Freaky Friday and experienced firsthand what we’re all about: the heart, the mission, the ministry
He’s not just here to play Tevye — he’s here to live the story alongside us, bringing that raw, authentic connection to a role that demands it. Jim understands both the weight of tradition and the power of love, making him the ideal choice to bring this beloved patriarch to life for our community.
